Waste Not Want Not

Mission: Waste Not Want Not prevents the discarding of food that can be used to fight hunger here at home. The volunteers rescue surplus food within a 15-mile radius of Orange Park and provide it to charities serving the less-fortunate in 14 counties.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Drivers

If  you are willing to drive your own vehicle to a donating business to collect the food and deliver it to their facility, these opportunities take between one to three hours.  They rescue food every day of the week, usually in the morning.  They will work to accommodate your schedule, whether you would like to volunteer once a week, once in a while, or just when we need a substitute.

Truck Runs

Waste Not Want Not uses their box-truck to make some of the larger rescues. If you are willing to drive the truck (no special license required) OR are willing to ride along to help sort, load, and unload the food, these opportunities take about three to four hours, with some starting early in the morning and some later in the morning. They do this most days, but you will decide how often you would like to help.

Sorters

If you are willing to sort food at our facility, preparing the orders for the recipients, these opportunities are from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. (Hours vary on Sundays.)

Other Opportunities:

Most of their volunteer opportunities take place during school hours, but they do have some opportunities for teenagers and families with school-age children.  On a case-by-case basis, they allow some individuals to complete court-ordered service hours with us. They also occasionally have projects that are suitable for groups wishing to volunteer together.  Please call our Volunteer Director Ms. Linda at (904) 505.5894.
